Militia - Anarchist Vegan Industrial Percussion - Fuck Yeah

Image: A blurry action photo of the group Militia in green lighting. The member in the foreground has light skin, long hair, and is wearing a tshirt and skirt while hitting various pieces of metal with sticks. The person in the background has light skin and is standing behind a table playing instruments and wearing a tshirt.
Thanks to the guys over at idieyoudie, I have found what I thought did not exist. This is unfortunate because this band has been around a while. This is Militia. Vegan. Anarchist. Self-described eco-anarchists to be exact. Bringin' a little flavor to collapse new buildings with a sound  all their own (They really aren't much like neubauten, but I just can't help but think of them when I hear that metal clanking). All of their stuff seems to differ greatly from album to album. Check out idieyoudie's post on their newest album for all of the good deets bout them. Here is an interview with them as well. I'm still too busy listening and coveting their many albums.

  1. HECK THE FUCK YES, BRO. The world is a better place this evening because of this. I was afraid I wouldn't love the music, but it totally resonates-- especially that second one with the strings. I mean, you know what strings do to my gothular guts. I just wish I could get their music on Pandora; they don't seem to be on there :-(

I'm elated to see rivetfolk talkin anarchy, but I'm still disappointed that the interview uses masculine generic language. I can't tell if it was written awkwardly in English or awkwardly run through a translator into English. Either way, Spanish aside, I'm both forgetful and unaware of the political discourses around different gendered European languages. I should ask my ex who repatriated herself to Germany-- I just got some stuff from her in the mail. That's where I learned that her housemates are none other another ex's ex-housematess from your city who expatriated themselves out that way. Smallest world.

    1. Honestly, when I posted this I had not read the whole interview yet. They are a Belgian band so it could be a bad translation. I know words are gendered strangely in different languages. And Green anarchist dudes on the whole tend to fall short on feminist stuff at times so I wouldn't be surprised if that is missing from their analysis. But I wanna wait until I know more. I was just so pumped to find this!

  2. Militia are one of the greats. They stay true to industrial's old-skool punk aesthetics and aren't afraid to express their true beliefs (unlike so many ambiguously fascist bands out there today). You should think of doing a post on racism and misogyny in the power noise or neofolk scenes. A piece on Boyd Rice or Death in June would probably ignite WWIII if you're game. Anyway, thank you so much for this blog. I too have watched with growing despair "industrial's" slide into blatant misogyny. I think a huge part of this is the mainstreaming of the genre. It is highly commercialized, especially in Europe and essentially functions as an alternative pop culture (as opposed to an alternative to pop culture). The counter-cultural message of industrial since the new millennium has been largely displaced by club friendly sexy-time culture. As for newly pressed misogynist material, you should check out Wumpscut's new album "Satan and Women First" or his older work like "Ich Will Dich".

    1. Thank you! You are the second person to recommend power noise or power electronics duders. I must admit I am not as familiar with those scenes anymore. I will definitely look into it.

Thank you for your kind words about the blog.

And ooooooh :wumpscut:, one of my all time favorite artists as a teenager who I began disliking as I grew up. It will be wondrous to revisit him. I will check out the new satan and women first thing since I seem to have a trend of writing about newer things as they arrive. Thanks again!

  3. I googled the wumpscut album and found some dude's ass tat O_O
As if that wasn't bad enough, it involves a devil on one cheek with a mile long peen pronging JC on the other cheek. Nonconsensually. Nothing like a blasphemous rape tat on one's ass to attract sexual partners!

  4. Here's the Death in June / Boyd Rice post. http://industrialantioppression.blogspot.com/2012/02/death-in-june-and-boyd-rice-nazism-and.html Feel free to add more to it as I was winging the research all night with strained eyes.
